• Wonder full, the impersonal experience of life. Ages ago, I noticed my ‘expectations’ triggered every upset. Every upset became an opportunity to change and then remove an expectation. George Pranskey, in one of his asides, suggested that preferences were the first step in creating expectations. So I’ve given up preferences as often as possible. Og Mandino’s second scroll, I greet each day with love in my heart, has morphed into greeting every moment, welcoming each moment with gratitude, love, and appreciation. The morning aches, the walk with the dogs, and even the elevator experience have changed. The task growing up was to resolve all matters of indifference [most matters, it turns out] around the house, deferring without ostentation, without expecting any credit or ‘browny points,’ to the preferences of my five younger siblings. Without ostentation was the most challenging part. Now to greet each moment, to welcome ALL of it with gratitude, love, and appreciation. Especially with family. A rich area of opportunity.
